Description

The Pentecostal revival and mission that started at the beginning of the 20th century expanded into a world movement in a few decades. Because of its impact on historical churches and its social consequences, neither church historiography nor secular historiography can treat what took place on Azusa Street as a mere peripheral event of the birth of a denomination. We can now put the Hungarian reader in the hands of the first comprehensive work in his native language, which approaches the events that took place more than 100 years ago in a way that is easy to understand, but at the same time with the precision of a historian. The author leaves the evaluation of the events to us, the readers. We hope that this work, which is also recognized at the international level, will provide significant help to the research of the Pentecostal movement in Hungary, and even more so, we would like to rekindle the desire for renewal and revival in many Christians, to which our God will respond again with the Church- and society-shaping filling of the Holy Spirit.

Cecil M. Robeck, Jr. (MDiv, PhD) is Director of the David J. DuPlessis Center and Professor in the Department of Church History and Ecumenism at Fuller Theological Seminary. His main field of research is the Azusa Street Mission and the study of the impact of the mission. An ordained minister of the Assemblies of God, he has been working for more than 30 years to strengthen inter-church relations in the World Council of Churches, the Vatican and other organizations. He is a consultant in the Lausanne World Evangelization Committee and also participates in the leadership of the Global Christian Forum.
