I was born in 1971 and, with the exception of my childhood summers at Lake Balaton, I lived in Budapest all my life. I have always been interested in the meeting of cultures, the relationship between them, what they can do with each other, how they can interpret "the foreigner". I have been interested in Jewish culture since I was a teenager, and in the mid-eighties I started studying modern Hebrew at the only such language course in the country at the time.
I became interested in the Bible early. At the age of 10, we moved next to a church, at which time I asked my parents for one, but I only got past the first two pages when Jehovah's Witnesses appeared in my life five years later. I was one of them between 1989 and 2002, and although my first experience of God was connected to them, I left them thinking that I never want to deal with God and the Bible again. However, God came after me and led me to conversion in the Kelenföld Evangelical Church. With my wife, Eszter, who also teaches at the PTF, we have been attending the Reformed Church in Gazdagrét since the end of 2015, and as volunteers we lead recovery groups in the interdenominational "Open Heart" service for people who have suffered injuries in their life situations, and we participate in the training of such group leaders.
In 1990, I was accepted to ELTE's English-French department, and in 1994 I graduated as an English teacher. In the beginning, I taught, then worked as a translator, and in 2013 I started teaching again. In 2015, I completed the pastoral psychology specialist training of the PTF, and from 2014 I am taking part in doctoral training at the religious studies doctoral school of the National Rabbinical Training - Jewish University, my doctoral topic: Jesus in Jewish thought after the Enlightenment. As part of the training, I also attended ancient Greek and Aramaic courses.
I have been teaching biblical Hebrew at PTF since February 2015, biblical Greek since September 2017, and universal church history for one year since September 2018. From September 2017 to August 2019, I taught professional English and medical translation at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Semmelweis University. In the spring of 2018, together with Gábor Buzási, who teaches at the Department of Hebrew Studies at ELTE, I led a course entitled "Jesus in the Jewish Tradition", and in the spring semester of 2017 I held a biblical Hebrew course for the doctoral students of the Rabbinical School. From September 2019, I teach biblical Hebrew and Aramaic as well as English at the Rabbinical School.
My dream is to create a Hebrew-Greek-Aramaic Bible reading circle for anyone interested, regardless of faith (or lack thereof).
Faith (personal thought, verb, motto or creed):
Matthew 11:28-30, The Message translation: "Are you tired? Can you barely stand on your feet? Are you burned out on religion? Come to me. Run away with me and you'll get your life back. I will show you how you can really relax. Walk with me and work with me: watch me do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I will not put anything difficult or inappropriate on you. Be in my company and you will learn how to live free and easy”.
Matthew 23:8-10, The Message translation: "Don't make anyone an expert in your life to tell you what to do. Leave this power to God, he will tell you what to do. [...] And don't let people manipulate you into taking control of it either. There is only one Life Guide for you and for them: Christ".
