Christian social work

Are you interested in individuals, families, groups and communities living in difficult situations and struggling with problems? Do you have experience that people are happy to turn to you with their problems? Do you enjoy helping others and would you like to learn about social work? Apply for our training and do your part to become more professional in your work for people in difficult situations.

Description of the training

In the BA in Theology, the Christian Social Work specialization provides insight into the theory and practice of social work, the operation of social and child welfare and child protection institutions, and the methodology of providing assistance to individuals, families, groups, and communities. You can take part in practical courses that will develop your skills and abilities necessary for providing assistance. Through the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the courses, as well as the enrichment of your personality, you can become more effective in your social relationships and work in communities. A theology student who has completed the Christian Social Work specialization: Knows and understands the concept set and institutional system of the field of social work, as well as the role, essence, functions, complexity, and multi- and interdisciplinary nature of social work. Has knowledge about the functioning of society, social processes, the origin of social and social problems, risk factors, and how all of these affect individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Is able to distinguish beliefs, stereotypes, and prejudices from social facts, descriptions, and analyses supported by evidence. Is able to recognize problems that arise in the lives of individuals and families. Is able to recognize his/her adequate role, place, and the limits of his/her professional competence and competencies, and is able to cooperate professionally with professionals from other professions. Is sensitive and open to social and social problems, committed to professional values. Is open to getting to know others, relates to people, families, groups, and communities with empathy. Is responsible for his/her communication and adherence to the ethical principles of social work at all times.

  • You will learn about the history and characteristics of biblical times and the church, delve into the Old and New Testament Scriptures, and become familiar with their main explanations.
  • we help you learn to present, speak publicly, and write creatively
  • You will learn the theoretical and practical foundations of social work
  • You gain insight into the field of social deviance and social control
  • You will learn about the connections between sociology and social work
  • You will discover the institutional system and target groups of social work
  • You participate in child protection, social work fieldwork and case processing seminars
  • In personal skills development, we help you become as suitable as possible for helping work.
  • You will also study social psychology.

Admission requirements

People with a high school diploma can apply for the training. The admission process includes a personal interview and completing an online Bible knowledge test.

You can also complete 75% of the lessons remotely on a correspondence course. You can connect remotely via phone, tablet or computer. It's like sitting in class: you can comment and ask questions, the instructors and students are listening to you

Day training with START! scholarship

We make it easier for you to start your studies: from the first month onwards, we financially support PTF START! with a scholarship. You will receive HUF 30 per month in the first semester and HUF 20 per month in the second semester. You will receive this scholarship in addition to all other student grants

You don't have to worry about housing either: take advantage of the free dormitory accommodation that we provide you in the first semester. We won't leave you to yourself in the second semester either: you can use dormitory housing at half price.
