Professional further training
Child and youth addiction consultant
The aim of the training is to provide modern knowledge and usable professional tools for recognizing and supporting addiction problems in children and young people.
Description of the training
The specialist training for child and youth addiction consultant serves to train professionals who work with children, adolescents and young people in various areas of addiction, psychiatric, social, educational or child protection care. The aim of the training is to enable participants to conduct individual and group addiction consultation with a systems approach, modern and collaborative knowledge, and to navigate the world of age-specific needs and institutional processes.
The training provides a strong theoretical and practical foundation. You will learn about the most important areas of general psychology, personality and social psychology, mental health, addiction and addiction psychiatry, so you will be able to interpret child and youth addiction problems with a solid professional background.
You will learn about the characteristics of different types of addiction, the intervention directions related to their treatment, the care options and patient pathways. You will also learn to interpret the nature of addiction and connect theoretical knowledge with practical helping work.
The specific situation of children and youth is given special emphasis. The training helps you recognize the needs along which positive change can be initiated in the client's life, and also supports you in distinguishing between the symptoms of addiction and similar psychiatric symptoms. You will also develop your cooperation skills so that you can work effectively with representatives of health, social, educational, child protection and other allied professions.
As part of the professional core material, you will deal with areas such as self-awareness, family consultation, conflict management techniques, basic knowledge of child psychiatry, social skills development, anxiety and stress reduction, clinical social work, and child and youth addiction consultant work in residential institutions. The training also provides legal and ethical knowledge, and places significant emphasis on professional practice: students gain insight into the different segments of the child addiction care system, from pre-care to after-care.
By the end of the training, you will be able to work with solid knowledge, a sensitive professional presence, and usable practical tools to support the recovery of young people.
